Central Locking, haunted?!

  Dynamiqe
My central locking has been screwed! the central locking started to lock and unlock by itself whilst i was driving. it doesn't happen all the time, just randomly. also, i don't know if this is a factor, but the central locking button on the dashboard, which used to work, now doesn't. it used to not be such a problem because once it was locked whilst motionless, it stayed locked, however, yesterday i was at the pub with my friends, and we walked away from the car, and it started to lock and unlock it self and is pleased. i locked it again, i even locked, unlocked, and locked it again (which usually works) however now it doesn't work, and just locks and unlocks as it pleases. has anyone had any experience with this? i know the probable answer is to take it to an specialist electrician for it or something, but i really don't have a lot of money.

thanks :)

oh!!!! its a clio dynamique 2003 mkII if that helps :)

My gf's Megane does this and it's almost certainly down to loom gremlins (a dodgy connection somewhere in the wiring loom) Renault are renowned for poor electronics. We just put up with it as its not an mot failure.

if you can't live with it take it to someone who has experience with electronics and they'll undoubtedly know what to look for. For god sake do not let Renault touch it!!

Check for a loose connection or a wire fallen out of the connector behind the central locking button.

I did a dash conversion in my older clio which involved messing around with this connector. One of my wires fell out and dropped onto the radio, creating a short circuit whenever it touched a metal bit. This meant the car kept locking and unlocking itself.
