Changing The Gear Gaiter

had a quick search, couldnt see any posts relating to my car -

If i wanted to change the gaiter, and NOT buy a new surround, could i do it?

was looking at one of them Type VR surrounds, but cant see how the gaiter is secured on the RT, looks like the leather is trapped.

as far as i can tell the surround actually goes INSIDE the existing gaiter, then the surround traps the gaiter in place?

any help? confusing myself now, cheers

Confused me, hehe.

Id get the whole thing - inc surround - make it look a lot nicer.

Thing is, if you took your existing one off.. then I cant see how it secures? Maybe the gaiter goes over the current one somehow? Dunno.. heh.

cheers for the reply.

i dont really want to get a chrome surround or owt, was hoping to be able to just change the gaiter

as far as i can see, as i said, the "surround" actually goes inside the gaiter before it is pushed on, thus trapping the gaiter in place. dont think this one can be guessed - expect someone on here knows what im talking about lol

cheers

Ive fitted a new gaitor to mine with the original surround. Cant remember exactly what it looks like at the mo, but its quite tidy. Ill see if I can get a pic for you later.

yea if u just put a screwdriver underneath the bottom where the rubber finishes the whole piece including the plastic underneath comes off..well mine does..and then the rubber is just like held on with the rubberiness of itself onto the plastic :s if u no what i mean

It has some clips underneath it which keep it held onto the centre console. Got to be a bit careful when you take it out to make sure you dont snap anything. The gaitor that I got is a very tight fit around that plastic surround bit, but it goes on eventually.
