Clio 182 Gearbox options

  Clio 182
Hi All

Recently i broke my Clio 182, I lost all gears on a trackday so expecting the diff to be in a bad way. looking at my options and also wondered if any recommended specialist out there.

1 - Get a rebuild of my gearbox
2 - Get a second hand box
3 - Get a fully refurbished box
4 - Get a rebuild modified Quaife ATB box.

I am running k-tec supercharger with about 260hp so a diff would really help the the extra power. This is purely a track car, its road legal but only drives to tracks and back. I have no intention of driving on the road.

Concern are, I have read 260hp is the limit of this Clio gearbox regardless of what is inside it. I don't want to low up an even more expensive one!

Regards
Gary

I’ve definitely seen them handle more than 260bhp, but there’s quick ways to kill a jc5. Loading them up with maximum torque at low rpm kills them. Using s**t oil and not changing it often enough kills them. And rushing the gearchanges kills them.

There’s no available uprated parts for these gearboxes either except for a strengthening plate for the end of the box. The casing on the 182 boxes seems to twist more which causes problems as it loads up other areas.

If you can locate another box I can build you one up with a diff in it.

@Lo7us111 - without wanting to blow further smoke up Northloopcup's arse, he is indeed the man to go to with these gearboxes. ;)

Fully dismantled and refurbed mine after it suffered damage once a driveshaft went. Four years on, its still sweet as a nut.

Got mine in for a service in two weeks time and getting the gearbox oil drained and swapped out while its there. It's done less than 15k in those four years, but as Mark mentions, not changing it often doesn't help either. I suspect the extra 'stress' of a pure track car makes that requirement even more relevant?
