clock + cd player not working (odd one this)

  172 CUP
Right i tried to change the headunit in the 197 and knocked 2 wires together ( i think) I now have no clock or temp etc and the standard HU dosnt work.

Normally there is a perm live 12v and a switched live 12v now i know which is the switched live (ive found it) i know what should be the perm live 12v looking at the block that should plug in but im only getting 2.5v from it not the full 12v.

Im sure there was 12v i had to change the headunit fuse (under the dash) so i must have shorted it out. all changed and checked all fuses but still no display.

I have the new HU working by means of using the switched 12v but it looses all its settings.

Does anyone have anyidea what i have blone and why im only getting 2.5v not 12 like i expect and where could some more fuses be.

ANyone with a 197 if they look at the fuses you will see there is a picture of them all but the top two lines of fuses are not there so where are they?

sorry for the long post

Steven

If you're only getting 2.5vdc on the permanent feed then something must still be shorted out somwhere. Can you see where you originally shorted them out? As in have you found the fault?

What are you testing between to get 2.5vdc?

Between the live and either the door hinge metal or the black earth wire.

Its not taken any more fuses out that i can find but there are more fuses on the map of fuses than there are holes for fuses. Ive looked under the bonnet but there just massive fuses the whole car works fine everywhere else.

Sounds tricky.

There is only one fuse for the clock/radio although in the Mk2 Clio's it does the interior courtesy light too.
There will always be empty spaces in the fuse panel due to the spec level of your car and the equipment it hasn't had fitted.

Sounds stupid but you are testing the feed with the ignition on?

Where are you based?

yea tried both it never moves from 2.5 v but the switched 12v goes from 0v - 12v with the ingnition.

Its not the fact the fuses are empty i am happy with that but there is not even a slot there the sticker needs the top two lines taking off. Ill get a pic. I will go through every fuse again and try but it cant really be a fuse if there is some juice going through. Being cold out i was probably rushing and have missed something.

Ive changed the 15a fuse 4th row up on the left but as you can see the top two lines of fuses are missing.

Like indicators, etc so where are they?? i think it may be the 15A light one that could have gone, but i cnat find it.

I see what you mean. It's not as straight forward as it is in the Mk2's.

Does the interior courtesy light still work?

What's the 10A fuse in the bottom right corner?

Im not sure what the red 10A fuse is. yes all inside lights still work the ones in the front do i assume the ones in the back do as they would be on the same fuse an i would notice it being dark inside.

Im going to read the book and see if that tells me differnt about the fuses. The fact i cant find anything that dosnt work other than the standard stereo and the clock thing is whats odd.

Pull the stereo fuse and see if the interior courtesy light goes out?

As you're not getting the full 12vdc through the permanent feed then perhaps it's relay controlled? I've no experience with the 197's to be honest.

Yep that works. So what ever idea you had im sure has just gone out of the window.

I have found nothing else that dosnt work as yet.

sorted it now.

The red 10a fuse that is on its own on the right had blown but it was fine the first time i checked after the other fuse had gone. I just went through everything again and again and found it. Not sure what that one 10A fuse des all on its own over on the right but seems to be only the live feed to the stereo and the clock.

Thanks to all that have helped.

I did have to take the glove box out to get the headunit into the slot in order to grab the cables from the back so the thing would fit. Propper pain in the a0rse.
