CO2 intercooler cooling

Can somebody hook me up with schemes for CO2 Intercooler cooling? Ive seen it on couple of cars, owners claim nice cool down and better performances...

Errr...get a mate with a fire extinguisher to hose down your intercooler while your staging just before your quarter mile run?

Anyway, what intercooler is this on a 1.2 RN?

I was going to say: "just because you dont have one Nick"...but you probably do dont you.

Does a turbo car actually have to have a intercooler? I was always under the impression it didnt, but its extremely benificial to have one.

Turbos dont have to have intercoolers a turbo compresses the air before it is mised with the fuel. The air however heats up when its compressed an intercooler just cools the air back down again to allow for a more efficient burn and for more power to be generated.

ie 1.5 dci clio can give 65hp without an intercooler and 80hp with an intercooler.

LOL yeah got two turbo cars at the moment. Well you could run a turbo without an intercooler, but on the whole you dont because the compressor actaully adds heat to the inlet charge, unlike a NA engine which just sucks in whatever air it can get. Even though you might have hot air under the bonnet, itll never get THAT hot that the engine will really struggle. With a turbo running any more than very mild boost, inlet heat is a big problem and it robs power something rotten.

So yes you can run without an IC but it would be very silly.

if your using a CO2 extinguisher, jsut spray it on the intercooler before your run, dry ice will form inside the fins for a short period and help with heat transfer from air to air.

BenRs right with the fire extinguisher bit.

Turbo and supercharged cars can do just fine without a cooler, in fact in a lot of cases in older turbo motrs they run better without them due to the crappy intercooler that the manufacturer stuck on there.

Ok...but if you know how to make it spray with me in the car...Ive seen a car on Street Race with same cooling system, and he was doing it from inside...so if anyonwe has the idea how to make it...

plumb in a C02 fire extinguisher and then aim the nozzle at the intercooler, can it get any simpler?

What about a water spray bar in front of the IC and somehow hook it up with a high pressure line into the cabin then press the lever and the CO2 goes along the tubes and sprays the IC.

Other than spraying it before 1/4 mile, i wouldnt bother. Probably an easier option, buy a CDA/Viper, should help keep inlet temps down (well Im hoping so) What are you using Nick? I havent had much response from the RTOC boys about using a carbon induction kit on a turbo lump, makes a lot of sense to me, cheap too for the GTT £150 delivered.

I thought the GTT has a charge cooler (air to water)? This would make the CO2 idea a little more difficult.

Has anyone looked at water injection? The vapourisation idea works wonders for turbocharged cars.

I was thinking yesterday. If you have a turbo car, do you need a radiator aswell? It just crossed my mind because I would have thought the perfect place for an intercooler is exactly where the radiator is. This is mainly pointed at nick because his wasnt a turbo car to start with.

ask on scoobtnet there are loads of people on there that have done it
Thanks for that, but Google cant find anything under "scoobtnet". Please give me the URL...thanks :)

Blue. look on BB Performance site.. they do Charge cooling kits. £450 or something. thats water i think, cant remember off top of head

Its nice if they have that done for selling, but Im a little far away from UK and I really want to DIY, cos some geezer done it on Passat 1.8 T DIY and Passat won the drag. And it looked pretty cool also :)

normal competition fire extinguisher with the nizzle or brass tube with holes drilled in it......
