I want my car colour coding.

I'v just read the guide on here on how to do it.
Is it as easy as it reads? or is it tricky?
I'm thinking before i put it into a garage and pay £200, i may go to the scrappy and get a door strip and try myself using the guide?

Considering iv never painted a car part, how hard/easy should this be?

i was told 2-3 days.

i deffo going to give it a go. just got to find some decent side strips down the scrappy.



i have a black dynamique. am i right in getting the 'black gold' ?
or what paint do i need?
-grey primer
-black gold?
-laquer?

Local body shop say drop it off Monday morning, ready Tuesday afternoon. Thats front/rear bumpers, side strips, bullets, spoiler, handles.

Halfords can mix the paint to the colour code of ya car.... do not buy off the shlef its shite....
I did my strips in titanium and the colour was near enough spot on

Paul if you;ve got a 1.4 then your colour is pearl black, Black gold is for 182's only

Reputable place by me will do all exterior plastics for £120 in two days aswell

it will keep me busy anyway trying to paint it. + i will have the benifit of knowing i done it (or tried)

You will manage son easy enough to do yourself and you will save some pennies............ im sure if needs be someone will give you a hand

If you're going to do it yourself, I'd use www.auto-paint.co.uk They made a perfect match for my car, can't fault them.

When I get mine done I'm gonna take it to a local bodyshop, it's not worth the hassle of doing it yourself imo and theres no way joe bloggs can match the quality finish of a bodyshop which has the correct atmosphere for it compared to sat on newspaper in the back garden.

If however you do decide to do it yourself make sure you follow the guide and make sure you leave to dry for 24 hours after the primer, 24 hours after basecoat and 24 hours after the lacquer has been applied. If you don't you may find they will still have that textured surface to them.

I did mine, just before a Clio meet, proper rush job, done in like 6 hours 5 coats primer, 4 of paint, 5 of lacquer, Lasted a year! just starting to peel now at the edges (pressure washer)

Kinda got a bit of luck today at the scrappy.

There was a colour coded dynamique spoiler sitting nicely on a car crying out for me to buy so i have one less part.
i also bought the door strips off both sides for a fiver. so if i mess them up it dont matter.


Is there an easy way to get the bumper inserts off?
then again, whats the best way to get them off to paint?

Also, the side strips, do they need sanding down, or can i just primer them? or is it best to sand?

best to sand them down, get as smooth as possible before primering just to be safe
