Colour coding

How much does it cost to just get your sidestrips colour coded at a garage?

  1.2 Dynamique
i dont know tbh, but having a go yourself is cheaper. iv nearly finishd doing mine, just a couple layers of lacquer left, its not too difficult (im hardly the best at these things) as long as u take your time, theres a guide on here somewhere too.

Yeh its supposed to be quite simple, just take ur time on the preperation side of things and u should be fine. Id do it urself first an c what it comes out like, if its crap then u can always get it done properly cnt ya. Mayaswel have a go an learn as u go!

Yea was thinking of doing it myself actually, the guide on here looks detailed so shud give me a good idea of how to do it. Has anyone got any pics of ones they've done themselves?

Easy really and saved the cash! but as its already been said.. take your time and be patient with the prep work!

Sand them all down smooth first!

could be an irish thing lol like a p plate perhaps?

Yes it is a northern ireland thing... We have to put "R" plates on the car after passing the test which means restricted driver. Have to have them on for 1 year after passing and cant go above 45mph!

Its not optional like the "P" plates you guys have to put on over in England.. Its compulsory here!

Car looks amazing mate. You've definetly convinced me to do it myself, was it difficult doing the front and rear bumpers yourself? have heard of quite a few people doing side strips themsevles but not bumpers, they look very good

The strips seem simple enough, it's the door handles what worry me, how do you remove them??

Cheers mate! Its not hard work... just boring and fustrating sanding the bumpy effect off the plastic, then going through the slow process of spraying each layer of primer, paint and laquer! I didnt do the rear bumper as its from a 182... I just unclipped the parts from the front bumper which was a b!tch and painted them the same way as the side strips. First time doing anything like it so just goes to show a complete novice can do it if you put your mind to it..

Door handles are easy to remove! just take off the door cards, undo the screw and unclip them! HOWEVER... I would recomend you buy a second set, as you wont get the painting all finished in one day and you can go about with no door handles! Check out ebay!

Don't suppose you have any you could sell? ebay only has the inside handles?

Seems a waste to put all that money and effort into a 1.2 doesnt it?

Im afraid I sold my old ones a couple of months ago to another member on here.. Price them at renault. or search ebay for megane handles as they are the same shape and size!

It is alot of money and effort to put into the car, but I have done it because I enjoy it. I have done the majority of the work myself so saved alot there.. The expensive parts where the wheels at £375, full interior at £300, exhaust at £150.. But I can take them all off again and resell!

Judging by look of his car now compared to how it would of looked as a standard 1.2, I'd say its definetly not been a waste of time. Looks great :)

Cheers Ozzy!

Yeah it looks great but its still slow as crap.

Yeah, true... but as ive only had a licence for 6ish months its an ok car to start off in.. maybe in a years time I can get the proper thing when I earn no claims and have more driving experience!

  Ultra Red Clio 197
6 months and youv'e done all that, not bad and yeah it is a good car to start on.

Ive had the car from July 07! so its creeping up to a year now! I worked away on it even though I didnt have a licence to drive it unaccompanied! lol.. I have put alot of time, money and effort into it, but I cant wait to get a real 182... If I was to get one now insurance is currently around £1300 as a 23yr old with no claims.. so hopefully that will drop a bit in 6-12months time! ;)

I took all the plastic parts off the bumper with great difficulty then drove around with them off for about a month.. the ones at either end were easy enough to pull off but the centre one took me about an hour as it was so awkward.. basically they are all clipped on to the main bumper... and you have to have patience to try and get them off. I dont have any pictures of progress.. sorry didnt think of doing that. just be careful not to damage the paint work.. Get a finger under it and prise it off.. I had to stick a screwdriver behind it to unclick the clips. Its hard to explain, but give it a go and see how you get on.. how to painting is explained throughout the forum ;)

i got the whole lot done for £100...

Side strips, front and rear, the mirrors, every bit of plastic basically... looks good.. my car was black anyway but it looks alot smoother and its a good finish...
