Completed my first wedding...

  Fiat Panda 100hp
I had a thread a long time ago about landing my first wedding gig, well I did it on Saturday, and I absolutlry loved it. Which is a good thing as I've heard you either love it or hate it.

Only got nervous at the very start but the nerves soon wore off as I was in the church. Group shots outside the church was a little annoying as everyone was stood around and wouldn't move, so I had to put on my shouting head to get people to go where I wanted.

All in all I'm really psyched about it and eager for more. Hopefully got someone else who wants to hire me in the pipe line too from the wedding.

Sorry, let me just check, did you take some photos or throw your life away? The title may be misleading.

It's in the photography section so hazard a guess ;)

Nik - I used a D90 + D60, SB800 flash, 50-150 2.8 and a 17-50 2.8. I got the 50mm out a few times but found it too limiting not being able to zoom.

Used up 6GB and only one set of batteries surprisingly. I want a D3 etc but will have to do a few more weddings first :dapprove:

Look forward to seeing the results. Must be pretty nerve racking work!

Did you get paid a decent sum for it?

Pictures will come, editing and making a book for the couple first, priorities and all that.

Wasn't nerve racking at all which is what's so cool as I'm eager to do another now.
Not much pay wise, but the easiest £200 I've ever made.

Top stuff, glad it all went ok. I'm firmly in the 'hate it' camp, which is a shame as it's good money if you're good at it.

Currently helping my sister with her arrangements, £1500 seems average, which is unbelievable, quite frankly! Some we've looked at have been average at best, but are fully booked for months and charging huge amounts.

If I did it, I couldn't be just 'average'. I'd have to be good at it or I'd give up! lol..

I've been asked to do one next summer. I'm scared and reluctant to accept! lol.. Going to assist at one in Jan and see how I get on..

Im going to start doing this soon also. I already do DJing for weddings, and im looking at integrating photography into the day. Would ideally be looking at charging £1000 to start with and see how i get on, but like Revels said, i would want to be awesome at it...

Is that all the equipment you used? No other form of lighting? Get some pics up....

Really looking forward to seeing these Ben, glad it went well and you enjoyed it. :) I'm soo tempted to try it out, but not sure which side of the love it/hate it I'd fall on.

I think assisting would be great fun to do. You still get to take a load of pictures without having to worry that you are screwing with somebodies memories.

I am not sure I would book a DJing photographer for a wedding though... I'd rather have somebody who specialised in one of the two. No disrespect to you as you might be great at both, but personally I'd be dubious if somebody was marketing themselves that way.

So you would rather spend 2k on a photographer who dissapears after the ceremony, and 1k on a DJ....?

The service I will be offering is:

1. Wedding photography, choice of photos professionally printed and put in an album.

2. Reception/party photos, DVD created with ALL photos on, and DVD slideshow of evening with wedding music overlayed...

3. 4k audio/lighting rig, 2 DJs (i have a business partner) all day, providing ambient music for meal and then 4 hour disco.

All the above could be tailored to suit, and I would be offering that service for 1500...I know what i would rather go with...half the price and more to offer...

Oh, and for the record. Im a former club DJ (with references) and Im also a published freelance photographer for a US car magazine...so i think I should be able to comfortably market myself self that way...

I would love to see you try to explain how this is for portfolio purposes LOL

It's more for promotional than portfolio tbh Nick. There are always threads going up on Talk Photography with wedding photos and it's a great way of getting your name out there. Ok it's for feedback too sometimes, but it's not just that. £200 is very cheap for a wedding, so they should appreciate that. :)

Nice shots Ben, unusual choice of wedding vehicle, but I like it. :) Have the B+G seen the photos yet?
