Crackling after turning car off

  clio 172
Hi,Ive recently purchased a 04 plate 172 and have noticed that whenever I turn the car off after driving it, there is a faint crackling/snapping sound coming from the car. A friend said that this was just the exhaust crackling and that it was normal. I do recall hearing this on other cars that I have driven, especially after driving them fast, however I hear it on this car even after driving it very economically. Is this normal or something I need to get looked at?Thanks in advance

Welcome to C.S mate! Tis all normal, just the beast cooling down. ;)

Sounds normal to me. If it's really loud and gets notably worse then get it checked out but for the meantime I wouldn't go rushing down to Renault to get ripped off for nowt.

My 172 used to do the same mate, kinda makes a tinkling noise when cooling down after a nicely paced drive. My missus 182 does it but not to the same extent.

My Meg exhaust doesn't do it really, maybe I should try harder!! lol

As has been said, it's just the metal contracting in the exhaust as it cools down.

Mine has always done it, even when my old exhaust fell off and had a new one on, still the same. It's completely normal, absolutely nothing to worry about.
