I used it on the motorway a fair bit before i swapped my steering wheel over. Also there is a speed limiter function that can be handy if you are somewhere you dont know positioning of speed cameras. Id say its handy but not essential.
Before having a car without it I would say gimmick, but now see it as a good tool if you do alot off motorway driving, but with a 172 you should really take the B roads home anyway!
I use it all the time, great tool, i dont think im a lazy driver due to using it though, hell just stick it on 80 and give your foot a little rest, great on long jerneys, i think staying in the middle lane is lazy!
I had a funny incident going to swansea, there are 50 mph speed cameras on the motorway in port talbot. I had only first used the cruise control that day, and eased off to slow down at the cameras, and guess what! The cruise control kicks in! It was set for a little over 80! I nearly sh*t my pants, cheeky car!
Heheh, hitting the + button whilst its tempereraly disabled sets it to the speed your traveling at, what makes me laugh is the way that it doesnt gently accelerate but just hits full throttle.
It werent funny at the time.lol. Yeh, its strange sitting there and the car just does what it wants.
I dont like the speed limiter, I had it set to 60 last night. floored it(just before the override) in first then second and brakes must have come on at 60 , and it threw us forward.very unexpected.
I use my cruise maybe once a month if its a very early morning motorway drive. The rest of the time its almost impossible to use reliably without coming up against traffic...sure, in this case you can use your fingers but frankly my foot is easier to use.
The speed limiter I do find very handy on the Heathrow-side M25, but not essential. Id happily lose both for a new steering wheel, which I am still strongly considering. I just havent investigated enough to find a fitting kit for the Clio (looking at a Momo Trainer or Corse)
Yeh cruise in britain is a complete waste of time, unless you always drive through the night and there are no morons going 68mph in the fast lane. I have had it on a few cars and normally set it to 85mph as I find that speed fast but not too fast that you have to switch it off cos of traffic or does it attract the po-lice.
Personally its a nice extra to have in a car, but in a clio 172 absolutely pointless. I have never wanted to cruise in any hot hatch iv had!
I LOOOOVE cruise control, the 182 is the first car Ive ever had it on. It took me a couple of tries to get used to it, but now I think its great, and I use it pretty much every working day as I use a motorway to get to work.
I use the + and - to speed up and slow down too, and I love using the resume button and feeling it speed up by itself
The weird thing is when you go up a slight rise and it suddenly pulls!
lol @ cruise cant be used in britan hehe, I use mine all the time its great, whats the point in having your foot stuck at a silly angle on the go pedal for miles and miles if you can have cruise on? as racing blue says you can adjust your speed "live" using the +/- controls, when you get used to it you can drive for 95% of motorway time on cruise. Its also good for consumption as darting in and out of traffic might relieve the boredom a bit but its bad for fuel consumption
