DCOE/DHLA help!

I may have got hold of some dcoe/dhla carbs cheap.

Now, how do i go about with the ignition side of it? are there any dizzy's that i can fit to get it up and running?

What other options are there?

If you have electronic distributor then you will need either a points based distributor system that will fit, or you can buy a standalone engine management system such as weber alpha, or MBE etc.

A good one (on function and due to the fact its a DIY kit is cheap) is Megajolt. This will provide the ignition ECU to provide the spark from your dizzy.

Here is Megajolt lit jr:

A load of people in kit car land (including many of the successful racers) use this set up and swear by it!

Is it DHLA or DCOEs that you have and what size? bear in mind that a cheap set can still end up quite costly as you have to consider all the internals too, not just the barrell size. If you are running these on a 2000cc engine that revs to approx 6k then you would need around 36-38mm choke size

What engine are you using them on? You'll want 45's or 48's on a 2.0, 40's are abit small. I use them on my 1600 8v Vaux engine.....

I'll be getting 45's maybe 40's if i have to, i'll be revving to 7500 at the most.

Are you running carbs?

How much is the mega jolt system?
No, I have a megane 225 now, but I built a VX 2000cc XE powered westfield and had to convert the injection system on that to run carbs and converted to points based dizzy.

My conversion was to get rid of the electronic distributor and ECU off the vauxhall and replace with ignition set up (dizzy, coil, amplifier) off an 8V vauxhall cavalier which was carb fed. This didnt need any standalone management.
Megajolt isnt dear at all, do a google search or better still head over to www.wscc.co.uk which is a westfield forum, but there are loads of topics on there about megajolt. There is a UK importer on those forums called bill shurvington who you could send a PM to. He is a top bloke and will help you out.
If peak power is at 7k, you will definately need 45/48s, as you will need close to 45mm choke size and the DCOE/DHLA 40s will only take a choke size of 36mm. DHLA 48s go up to 43 in choke size.

Bear in mind, its not what your car will rev to that you have to consider, its where you realistically expect peak power to be made.

I have a web link somewhere which will help you understand a bit more what I am rabbiting on about let me see if I can find it

Cheers, i understand the carbs themselves

its just the ignition i need to tackle, as ive learnt it all with mechanical dissy's with points etc, and cant use/find that kind of dizzy to use with the 172 lump.

stick with the dizzy you have and use megajolt. Or if you can use some of the functions of megasquiret i beleive such as throttle position sensor. Get in touch with Bill Shurvington, he is your man!
