Dell Inspiron 6400 Won't turn on!!

  330 Ci
I bought an Insiron 6400 for off eBay a few weeks ago for the gf, it worked fine for a week or so but now won't turn on at all!

When I press the power button the "On" light illuminates for 5 seconds then goes out (the HD and power light remain unilluminated). The HD doesnt spin up or anything :S

I've fitted a new battery to it and the power pack works fine, so its not those.

I've had it in bits and tried the HD in my pc (to see if thats dead) and it works fine, everything can be accessed (and has now been copied to my pc).

I'm alittle stumped as to why its not working - anyone got any suggestions? I don't know what to try next and i'm loathed to take it to PC world!....

Any help would be muchly appreciated! :(

have a look on the motherboard mate and see if any of the capacitors have blown, i'd take a guess its probably a motherboard fault because dell use some really shoddy capacitors on a lot of boards. The link below shows you what a blown capacitor will look like, the capacitor on the left of the picture is the best example, it wil be raised up and might have some electrolyte crap on it thats come out instead of being perfectly flat and sealed

everythings plugged in and still no luck.

I didn't notice any blown capacitors when i had the back off it - no discharge anyway, although from the link you posted not all suffer from that straight awat :(

doesnt sound like its looking good! - just had a look at the cost of replacement mobos and they're not cheap for laptops!
