Dell XPS M1330 Rant.

Dip

Hi all, So I was using my laptop last sat the graphics cr was playing up, turned out it was a failure on the motherboard! Its only 9 months old and I took it out with interest free for the year.
Dell Replaced the motherboard for a "new" one. As they said on the phone, new was it being opened and tested but it had a refurbished sticker when it came. The engineer said he'd been replacing them all week!!
So turned it on today, and guess what...The thing is slower than my 5 year old Sony desktop!! Its CPU level is at 100% all the time, I cant use it to do anything, I think the cooling fan has stopped working. So I have fallen behind on daily reports and key indicators for my boss. Having to do them at work is just a headache as the my office computer sucks too, its only good for slight multitasking. .
The engineer did say I had 3 options, to make a complaint and try to get a new system if poss, get my money back or get extended warrenty for free. Money back - I havent paid!! Extended warrenty - I dont really want problems for life, another system - Only if its realiable.
Even worse the engineer said that these laptops are too small, they are only good for light use.
Im really hacked off, as its only 9 months old, and I still havent paid for it. Im in a dilemma on what to do. :(

Rant over.

Sorry to hear you dilemma, I'm actually after XPSM1330 myself, really love the stlying of them and spec. Been after one for a while now just need to save up and get a cheap one from their outlet.

You were saying the Engineer was replacing them all week? But isnt that his job? They hardly going to call him when someone's laptop is working fine!

As for the 3 options. it all depends on your exeperience with it (other than the faults) do you like it when its working? If so..they i would probably get the extended warranty. IF not then get a refund and get something else.

Working in IT myself and used various makes and models, Dell are on the top of my list. I think your just been a bit unlucky..

Out of all the Dell laptops I've sold, only the XPS 1330 has caused the most issues.. Heh.

They look nice though..

The "too small" argument is stupid though.. my laptop is smaller, and it's fine. They do cram a lot of stuff in though - dedicated graphics, etc.

It seems OK now.. it was for a client.
It kept just shutting down randomly - 30 minutes, 10 minutes, 2 minutes, urgh!

Had a new motherboard, new RAM and something else but made no difference.

Got a whole new laptop in the end from them, Heh.
New one seems solid! :p

Its a known problem within Dell.

The Nvidia graphic cards do not have a temperature monitor (no auto cut off) so if they do overheat which at the moment seems quite common, they burn up and cause all sorts of problems!

We seem to be getting more problems with batteries just randomly dieing.

No graphics issues as of yet touch wood.

  Better than yours. C*nt.

Dell are having battery supply problems at the moment after their main battery supplier had an incident at their factory.
