Difficulty getting into gear.

So basically had this for a long time but recently its been getting worse. Sometimes i'll try to select 2nd and the stick simply wont go down into the correct position, like if you were trying to go into reverse with out pulling up the lip, its as if there's something in the way of the stick.

This will also happen going into first sometimes, but then something it wont happen at all and everything will be normal.

So what's going to fix it? new gearbox oil?

check the gearbox leaver and gearbox fluid level.

ive got the same prob bud... kind of a shame you didnt get a straight answer i could do with knowing to. My mate works on gearbox's all day long and thinks it could be the syncro but im hoping its not tbh, could be clutch not doing its job properly but its more likely to be syncro when i can get round to it he's guna refurb the box for me, i'll let you know what happens wont be for a while tho :S

Gearbox mount???? I have read that if worn it could cause this.

Stage one, change the gearbox oil and with the correct stuff.

Its the owners that kill these boxes, not poor design or build

if your needing to keep the gate lifted up to get into first and 2nd then it sounds to me like your linkage needs re adjusted or an engine mount is completely gone.

as for the op, change the gearbox oil first see how that goes, how many miles has it done on the current oil?

is it only on cold starts or does it do it all the time even when theirs heat in the box

I only have to keep the gate lifted when coming out of reverse and the gear lever has to be put into second before letting go of the gate and engaging first, if i pull it out of reverse and try and put it into first it will just stick and wont go into 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc until i lift the gate and put it back into reverse before starting the process all over again, its a fun game.

My 1st to 2nd issue is present in all states, cold hot no real consistency, like Flux sometimes it wont happen for quite sometime. Couldnt tell you how long the oil has been in the box :S does it get changed at the 36k service?? if so it was changed just under 10k ago.

gear lever which is beneath the car connecting the gear stick to the gear selector, might have to check that one ..
