Dns Issues

So the wirless on one of my computers keeps having issues. It will say there is a dns issue and not find the DNS. However all other computers work fine.... Repairing it doesnt work, nor does unpluging the wirless box that recieves at teh computer nor does restarting teh computer.... It only does it occasionaly but has been doing it for a few days now and im at a loss really.....

On a side not, my iphone hates the wirless at my house, saying "unable to connect" a lot of time time, and when it connects just stopping working after a bit, but works fine at other peoples houses.

  A blue one.
TBH sounds like your router is s**t, it's not a netgear by any chance is it?

Be worth making a backup of your config file, and then reflashing the firmware with the latest edition for your router.

For your iPhone niggle, I'd suggest setting your router to one specific mode (802.11G), and not mixed mode (B,G,N), you can also try manually switching to another channel from your router config page, it's possible you're getting interference from a neighbours perhaps.

You can set your DNS servers to OpenDNS, which I myself use:
https://www.opendns.com/start/

Might be because your Iphone is connecting to the network and being assigned a certain IP address, then when your computer tries to access the network the IP address it would have taken is already assigned to the Iphone in your DHCP database.
Best thing to do is get into the settings of the router and change the setting for the length of time the DHCP database holds an IP address for a certain MAC address so that it times out and releases the IP address every half hour for example unless it is connected

Eh ?

You would get an IP address conflict if that were the case, and what type of DHCP gives out the same address twice ? that's the point of DHCP and lease times.

A 30 minute lease time ? wtf ?

It does it with mine, because my bro uses his Xbox with Xbox live, it tries to get the same IP address each time but thats the one setup for my PC aswell so if one of us is on, the other is requesting the same IP and the DHCP database wont let it, so it wont allow it to connect.
Pain in the hole so iv told him to go get his own router :) :p

The computer can request the same IP as it had before sure, but the dhcp would check its tables and realise it's already leased then send out an offer with a different ip etc.

You sure you havent got the xbox or pc setup with a static that conflicts with the DHCP server addressing pool ?

If not then something is wrong with your DHCP server.

I have it setup so that all my pcs request the same IP addresses everytime they logon, which is fine, that works and the IP is released after they log off, but ever since my Bro got his Xbox, it always wants the IP address my own PC requests, simple enough to enter the settings and change it on his Xbox but i cbf :p Would rather moan at him so he aint using my router :) :p

can you cable your PC to the router to see what happens skinny J?

Not really, its miles and a pita tbh.

Its a netgear sky box.... Think i've got a D-Link one about somewhere.

WOrking fine today so far:S

Will try setting it to G and see if that helps iphone.
