Do i keep modding? or get a new car

  Monaco
Ok so i keep teasing myself with insurance quotes on faster cars but here's the story:

My 1.2 has been in the family from new (my mum for 5 years, probably never saw 4000rpm), serviced every year having only averaged about 5000-6000 mpa, runs like clockwork, all major things done (sunroof, belts, etc.) so it's free motoring, just costs the petrol and the insurance. I never question whether it will break down, or some random fault.
Y reg but a ph2 (see project thread)
Looks great IMO, get a lot of compliments.

Bad points:
Rattles - soo many plastic rattles, sourced them all and none of them seem feasible to fix.
66,000 miles - very low for it's age but it's no baby.
No air con - a luxury I've longed for, means it gets very damp in winter and very warm in summer.
Bumpy - Eibach sportlines on standard shocks make the ride almost laughable a lot of the time.

So basically, do i take this rare opportunity to have very low cost motoring and run this car into the ground?
do some more mods (cheap coilovers, better wheels, take a new direction - a light-hearted one).
Or - despite not being a speed demon - get a nicer faster car
?
more insurance, more petrol, more money (i am a student)

Run it into the ground if you are a student. I (and many others) have been down the route of throwing far too much money at a car just for the hell of it. No point in getting yourself into MORE student debt just to have a slightly quicker car.

Get a quicker car when you have a decent job etc.

Can you afford to get a nicer faster car, and run it? Think carefully before answering though as there is always some unexpected cost.

Answer = yes....do it :approve:

run it into the ground, without modding it and when you finish your studies, you'll have more money, thus being able to comfortably afford a decent fast car and not have problems running it. Being a student, for most its financially strenuous as it is, not point in adding to it.

id say keep the 1.2 but if your thinking faster car something like 172/182 keep modding and saving for this but with the intention of moving wheels/headunit/sub/amps/speakers and what not over to the new car??

I have considered this, not sure i fancy a sport though (controversial for cs.net i know)

Yeh i think I'll keep it and mod it up some more. Those cheap coil-overs in the group buy sure are tempting!

Just keep it till you've finished Uni, especially since yours is well maintained. Then buy something faster when you graduate.

I'd upgrade but maybe not to something as expensive to insure as an RS Clio.

I've just sold mine because i'm going to uni in September. I could have kept it but expensive tax, insurance, consumables and repairs meant i'd be much better off financially with something a bit cheaper.

Personally i've had two Clio's now and fancy a move away from them.

run it into the ground and enjoy student life more with the spare cash imo. Even 1*2s aren't the cheapest thing to run/maintain especially when you take everything into account and any unexpected issues (Renaults, what can I say :()

cheap trouble free motoring is good as long as you like the car, i dont mind having a 2nd car so it can sit off the road when im not using it, i use the dci daily costs pennies and never gives me any greiffe! plus ive got a decent suspension setup and uprated brakes all round so its fun lol
