downloads failing *help*

any computer literate chaps know why im having problems downloading things? e.g. im trying to download msn messenger and the download only gets to a certain percent then stops, when i try download it again, it doesnt get anywhere at all, this is with most things i try.

i can download things on torrents though??

is there a setting i need to change??
