Driver Seat Sliding Woes.

Ok, so the other day someone in the back of my car managed to break the driver's seat. Now it doesn't go back further than about half way, which is usable for driving, but not very comfortable especially if I'm parked up and want some more space. So, I had a go at it after work today.

I found this thing in the door side seat rail behind the seat, it's clearly broken, as the other side has the same thing but the silver part is longer and has a square thing - I think this is what sets how far back the seat goes.

This one came out easy enough because it's broken, but the other side wouldn't come out unless you slid it off the end. To do that, it looks like you'd have to take out the bolt securing the seat rail to the floor. So, out came the socket set and I managed to undo the bolt underneath, but it seems you can't get the bolt off the rail (There's a smooth top to it, like a rivet, and something is holding it where it is.)

So a few questions.

1. Can the passenger side component be used on the driver's side? I'm thinking it can't, since it appears to have a different shape on the top on one side.

2. How'd you get the bolt off the end of the rail so I can slide the passenger one off and slide it (or a new one) onto the driver's rail?

Thanks :)

This thing broke on my passenger side seat.

I just swapped the rail for one from a scrapyard.
Undid the two nuts underneath, then the three nuts holding the seat to the rail, tilted the seat sideways and swapped the single rail over.
Had to disconnect the seat adjusting handle underneath but its easy to reconnect once you've swapped.
