ECU reprogramming

Is it possible to reprogram the chip on my Clio 1.2 RN, and if so, what would I benefit from it?

If I buy a chip, what are the improvements?

my last car was a 20v fiat bravo hgt,it had no mods just a super chip it was a vast improvment on the standard car,i know some one will say it cant have but my brother had the same car and mine was a bit faster and better to drive im thinking of having my 172 done,
