Electrical Issue? - No Power

I took my 182 our for quick run this morning, I noticed the engine management light flicker when I was driving, I put the foot down give car a few revs and she cleared, it did the same again a mile up the road again I put the foot down and it disappeared.

Went back to the car about an hour ago, I tried out the engine diagnostic check all seemed fine so I drove off. I then indicated left and the service light flickered on the dash board, I stopped the car and turned it off, then turned the car on again and the dashboard lit up with all the lights. I also noticed a slight crackling sound along with some burning. Now the car wont start and I have no electrical power at all....I have checked the battery connections all seem fine and secure. i have also tried both keys in the car and nothing changed.

I am not mechanically/Electronically minded and appreciate it could be one of a number of things, but I am hoping someone might have had a similar thing happen to their Clio and could suggest some of the things it might be.

Was only thinking yesterday how fortunate I have been with my 182 as it has never ever given me a problem. :S

The burning smell isn't a good sign I'm afraid. Really, its one of those where you have to see it but I'd guess something has gotten wet.

Does anything electrical in the car still function (central locking, lights, heater blower)?

One of my friends had the same problem with lights flickering on his dashboard, all his was where the wire go in for for the dashboard lights one ofthe wires was arching with another one, try looking at behind the dash for any wires that are damages or fraid, might not be the same problem but could be worth a look

Nothing electrical functions in the car, no central locking no immobiliser lights etc its just completely dead. When driving the car on its last few final meters I did notice a wirring noise almost like a supercharger which Id never noticed before.

Same kind of thing happened to my brothers 04 non sport.
When we checked the fuse box (inside the car, passenger side) one of the fuses had burnt out.
Replaced it but didnt seem to change anything.

He put the battery from my old 172 on and it worked fine after & never had a problem since.

It puzzled us but it worked lol
