email, domain help

I have had the same hotmail account since I was about 16 and recently I have had problems getting a couple of things sent to me.

I have had to use my work email address, which usually involves a call to info security explaining why I have had things sent from certain companies most specifically my bank (I work for a bank, so it can look a little odd getting emails fron another bank).

I have been thinking of maybe gmail. Anyone use it? Anyone got any other suggestions?

My m8 has suggested (via a short telephone conversation) that I get a 'domain name' and said that it will bounce emails to gmail etc and that I can point it to gmail and then another email account should I need to in the future.

This is all quite new to me and he didn't have time to explain (he will explain more when I see him, but that won't be until after the weekend), so I am calling on CS for help.

My m8 suggested www.easily.co.uk but are there any better (or cheaper if the level of service/ease of use is similar) ones to use?

Are you sure the issue is not with the SPAM filter on hotmail account? Have you checked to see if the items your are not receiving are not going to straight to spam?

some places, cant think where dont let you use a 'free' account due to the increase chance in fraud i guess

you can send up Scott@scottS.com and have that forwards to your hotmail account but it will cost you every year to keep the domain

Im use @rocketmail.com which causes me no problems, you can get that up when u sign upto yahoo

The bank specifically said they won't send to a Hotmail address, so it wasn't a case of me not finding it, unfortunately, they simply wouldn't send an email to that address.

Sarah, that's the kind of thing it seems my m8 was suggesting, but as it has been going for such a long time, I have a fair bit of spam going in there. If I ever fancy a dose of viagra or an 'enlargement', I can always have a look back in there (plus, i'd use it for MSN).

I don't mind paying if it makes it better overall.

nothing wrong with gmail whatsoever. ive been using it for years now (since early beta days) massive storage space and grows by the day.
spam filter (imo) is great. hardly ever get mail leak through.

gmail or as i have rocketmail will be fine and you dont have to pay

not point in paying for a domain just for that kinda use

i have the use of another email address (for more....high level use...when i dont think my gmail account is appropriate) but that routes through to gmail too.
you can select which address you wish to send from, and messages show which address they have been sent to

Gmail works great for me and I route my own domain email through it too.

I recently left my domian/host and signed up for a free gmail account. I get all my emails and next to no spam, oh and did I mention that its free ....
