Engine light?

My new to me Clio 172 cup has the engine light on. When I picked it up it sounded like it’s running on 3 cylinder. Changed the plugs, leads, and coil pack in the hope this would cure the problem but it hasn’t. Light is on solidly for a few minutes, then will flash for 15-20 seconds and go back to solid again. Does anyone have any ideas? Going to have a look at the injectors tomorrow and see if they’re good.

A faulty injector is a strong possibility. If it’s clogged or malfunctioning it’ll cause a misfire, rough running and an engine light. The intermittent flashing generally happens when the engine is under load. Could be something else, but you’ve eliminated plugs, leads, coil pack so it’s the next logic step. Replace all 4.

Swap them around and see if it affects different cylinders.

Check all the fuses in the fuse box in the engine bay. Double check all your leads are fitted correctly. Check the white plug in the fuse box (it has many wires going into it) has no moisture inside.

I’ll start by unplugging the injectors one at a time and see if anything changes to work out if it’s an injector. Have already checked what plugs I can find and all seem good.

Flashing EML is usually injectors.

Prob a bad injector.

Test the resistance of the injectors, should give you an indication if one is knackered
