Just had a letter from Greenlight to say my insurance is being cancelled... I sent all the info required the day I got a final demand for the documents (which was a week ago) - took 3 weeks to get proof of no claims from old insurance company.

As the office is now closed (only just got in from work and seen the letter) is there anything that can be done to err stop Greenlight cancelling my policy?

Doesn't mention anything about a refund either if it does get cancelled...

Taking the piss a bit as you've had all the money upfront.

harsh,

most insurers would either add the additional premium on and demand that, or only honour a claim made, once the docs had been produced.

Just noticed that you aren't open from tomorrow till boxing day..

Indeed thats shocking. I had trouble getting my proof of no claims from elephant this year when i moved to privilegde. They gave me 3 weeks at first and then sent a letter saying that they hadnt recieved them and if they didnt would have to charge the extra on the premium (bout £200 i think).

I gave them a call and explained i was waiting for them to be sent to me and they told me thats no problem and that i had another 14 days where by no premium would be added and any letters asking me to do so would not be sent out until after the 14 days is up

What was the reason ?? did they say they didn't get the docs ??

No reason on the letter! Just says your insurance will be cancelled 7 days from the 18th of December (which was 2 days ago, its only just arrived).

This letter was sent Recorded Delivery, but was never signed for, just put through my door.

Yep... no money back despite them telling me my policy is gonna be cancelled on the 25th.

Least they have given you seven days I guess to find somewhere else to insure it, not good the office being closed though and not getting your money back I am glad I never insured with them ..

Thats not much good to me over xmas unfortunately, I just don't have the money to find cover elsewhere.

Just had a new alarm fitted too... guess I'll have to cut my losses and sell the car..

They will have to give you a refund mate. Id complain to the FOS as well....

Yes they might well have to, but I can't afford cover on the car if they can't refund me until they're back in the office :(

Is their no emergency number to ring if you need help with your policy etc?
i have a number that i can ring with my insurance company (tesco) if its out of office hours etc in an emergency

Theres a claims line (which isn't handled within Greenlight, company called One Call) - but nothing else that I can see.

I paid just under a grand for the policy. Every other quote I've been getting is around the 2k mark.. money I just don't have this time of year.

Bloody hell mate thats bad .. have you checked your bank just incase they have refunded it by chance :dapprove:

Really gutted for you, this is extremely bad customer service deffo report it to the FOS as Ad said .. do it tomorrow see if they can help you ??

I stubbled on a slight result the other day- it turns out a trader who i deal with at work is a really good mate of Neil@Greenlight. I,ll speak to him tomorrow and see if im able to get in touch with him.
Can you possibly pm me the full details of whats happened?
So you paid ur money for a new policy but was waiting for proof of no claims to arrive from previous company and the time run out??
But all the info they have requested is on its way to them in the post?
As i said i dont know if i,ll have any joy but i can certainly try.

thats why the put it in writing, and sent recorded delivery... this way the cancellation would be no suprise.

i got that letter too, its no biggie, as long as you've sent off the proof of no claims in time you'll be ok, its seems the Greenlight computer is just trigger happy

I PM'd Neil with the story, I've emailed them.

I paid money for policy.
I waited till I had all the info to send (I know, I should have sent what I had).
That took 2 and a bit weeks.
I sent off all the info requested within the deadline they set... and I still got that letter.

Fred - Thats a touch more reassuring... cheers.

Still fecking appalling not having anyone to ring between now and 27th of December. Even if its just an answering machine where I could leave a message and explain my case.

Guess I shall wait and see!

Letter is dated 18th December, I sent the docs in on the 15th.

As Fred said it was most probably an automated letter but still i will try and make some contact to see where you stand.

Had a look on the FSA/FOS websites, and I can't complain to them unless I've complained to Greenlight first, and they've refused to do anything.

I'm not sure if being on holiday counts as refusal, mind.

Probably Automated and the letter has been crossed over with your docs arriving with them.

Although I wouldn't be impressed receiving a letter like that either.

y dont you just get a policy off the net from tesco or admiral etc on the 24th.. pay monthly (put down deposit about £100) then canx the insurance in the new year within 14days and get a full refund of your deposit. this gives you insurance over xmas and you will get a full refund on the 14th day, then you can sort out greenlight in the meantime.

wont cost you a penny :D

Paying monthly works out as a bigger premium though doesn't it? Why should he have to pay for Greenlight's incompetence?

I would investigate getting temporary insurance, although i would probably just do what edde has said!

it does work out more but you can canx a policy in 14days and get a full refund.

then he can sort out greenlight in the meantime and go with them again it just to get insurance over xmas
