Current Awareness Bulletin

M1 Closure this weekend

The M1 will be closed this weekend from Saturday evening through to Sunday afternoon. Work has been ongoing to demolish the redundant bridges on the M1 (between junctions 6a-10). The demolition of the second Junction 10 Bridge will take place overnight on 14th July 2007 and requires complete closure of the motorway in both directions
Traffic Management will be required from 19:00hrs with a full motorway closure being implemented from 20:00hrs on Saturday night. The motorway will remain closed for 18 hours reopening at 14:00hrs on Sunday afternoon.
As these motorway closures will cause major delays you are advised to seek an alternative route, consider other means of transport or delay your journey. If this isn't possible a signed diversion route will be available, but make sure you allow plenty of time for your journey.

There will be fully signed local diversion routes for northbound and southbound traffic.
Drivers travelling north to Luton Airport should follow the local diversion route and access the airport via Junction 11. If you are travelling south to Luton Airport, you should not be affected by the diversion route.
If you do need to travel on the M1 on the above dates it would be advisable that you seek an alternative route or allow plenty of time for your journey. You can check the current road conditions by using the Highways Agency web site, Highways Agency information line (HAIL) and Traffic Link for up to date information. The contact information for these can be found on the main Highways Agency. http://www.highways.gov.uk/
