I own a black Dynamique 1.2 16V 03 Plate and for most I am happy with the car, although i have a few questions, please forgive the novice that I am, i am just not a car person!
1) The paintwork is incredibily thin. My fiancee can scratch the top of ithe car with her fingernail. Renault claim this is due to the water based paints they now use. Most of the car seems to be ok, just the odd section. Roughly how much would it cost to re-spray and touch up certain parts of the paintwork. Its a black metallic. Does anybody else have poor paintwork?
2) When breaking (cold) there is a what can only be assumed to be a grating noise coming from the front brakes. I have had the checked by 3 different garages. All acknowledge the sound, but unable to find a source and that my pads and discs are perfect. Any ideas? The sounds is not there if i have been driving for a wheel, nor is it there in a hot summer.
3) MPG, I am getting roughly 44. Is that good?
4) Tyres - it came with continentials, but i had to replace them after 18K (all 4), and then I had toyos (had to replace all 4 again after about 20K). Is that a good mileage or not? My finacees Good Year eagles on her Yaris (38K) rears have yet to be replaced and still show large amounts of tread. She says its my poor driving but i am not sure. Any ideas. Also is it really worth paying the xtra for a branded tyre name, they don't seem to last that much longer.
5) Sunroof rattles at the handle, any ideas how to stop it?
6) On a really cold night, my car takes about 6 turns of the key to start. Normally its top notch and I know it needs a service (at 40K and its needs its 36K service, been saving for the wedding! Its getting a service next month (March)) but could it be anything else. Its starts normally any other time, wet or shine but just takes a while when its really cold (1 or less C)
7) My steering wheel melts. Strange as they seems, the top of the wheel has started to melt, and is rather not nice to look, and some of it does come off in my hands. Whilst not a huge problem, does anybody know the parts cost of a new steering wheel. The airbag is ok if that helps
