Only got MS works and its useless

Adobe Indesign is the industry standard you'll need illustrator and photoshop as well though.

I use Adobe Creative Suites Design Premium CS3 at work, the whole package is brilliant

Yup same - indesign has come a long way and is miles ahead of quark xpress.
