I have been using Mcaffee 2004 with free updates for 4 years and it has always nuked anything that has been bad, I wouldn't use anything else.

Got the 09 edition free because I'm a HSBC customer. I'll pass this on tho cheers!

you'd be surprised how many registry, file structure and process issues AVG creates on your system.

Mcafee is OK but process % is soooo high as is Norton

Im using avast! home and it doesnt cause me any trouble.

I also like NOD32 (the older versions)

AVG is fine if you only visit reputable websites. If you like midget p**n however you need something stronger ;)

Cheers for the heads up

PubIT knowledge FTL. Why even bother posting when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

How is that PubIT knowledge?

He's clearly right, McAfee is pants, a resource hog.

Don't know where people are hearing that AVG is dodgy, but from my use over 7 years, its been top notch. I've also shoved it on lotsa mates builds, and they haven't had a problem.

No-one ever agrees on what's any good when it comes to security software. I haven't tried McAfee for years but for free I'll give it a go.

Bloatware.

The only version I'd ever run is the Enterprise edition, which actually isn't bad. I really just don't buy into this "one product for everything" which McAfee/Norton and more recently Kaspersky and Eset like to throw at Home users. I can see the point for Joe Public, but for each facet they claim to cover there's better programs out there.

Eitherway, it's free at the end of the day and for anybody currently running without such software it's worth considering.

tbh probably not as noticeable with pc's these days, last time i had norton/mcafee installed was 5-6 yrs ago and it made a huge difference in bootup speed
