Frozen windscreen inside

  BMW E36 328i Sport
Anyone got tips on how to prevent this from happening or what the best way to de-ice inside is?

It is happening due to moisture trapped inside the car.
Best fix is to remove the moisture.
You can buy the bags of water absorbing granules on ebay for a couple of quid. Just leave a couple of them in the car for a few days and the problem will go away unless of course there is water getting in from somewhere. Are the carpets wet/damp?

Search for desiccant(sp) bags and you should get a few hits.

If you have got a sunroof there is a good chance that it is leaking.

That is the cause of mine.

I got this during the snow, bringing the snow in on my feet. Foot well heaters on while driving fixed it, window slightly ajar.

Got it so bad last year it was setting my alarm off.

Could be from damp mats, I though it might be because I've had the heaters on so inside the car is warm and outside is cold so it causes condensation which then freezes. Is that theory possible?

Don't seem to have any leeks.

I had that much snow brought in on my feet a few weeks ago, that I used to rest the floor mat against the radiator when I got into work. Seemed to help a fair bit.

As makkram says - you can get bags of silica gel which absorb moisture. If the moisture level is really bad, I'd hire a dehumidifier from somewhere like HSS - drop the back seats and leave it running in the car over night. Might not get rid of all the moisture, but it will definitely get rid of most of it. My m8 did the same when his Ph.1 172 had a water leak into the cabin.

I work in a shoe shop and get people coming in for the silica gel packs as they come in with every pair of shoes!
