Gearboxes

Other than a Willy box are there any other options for upgrading thebox in the vlaver for sensible money?

Does anyone make a 6-speed box? Sequential? Do Qauife make a box for the Clio? Anyone make an LSD for the Valver/Willy gearboxes?

Cheers, Simon

Simon, I can get you a brand new 6 speed manual with flywheel, clutch cover and plate for £895 - (renault price nearly 3k !)

It would need a 3/8th dural adapter plate making... you could have it laser cut for about 50 quid.

that would bolt to your engine.. and, you get a mega uprated clutch.. the clutch will be the turbo f4r unit.

drive shafts would maybe need modding, but not certain.. it would be a first time mod, but should be straight forward.

WOW, thats just what I was hoping for. How long will you be able to get hold of them? Any info on ratios? LSD? What sort of power/torque would the clutch be able to take?

Cheers, Simon

the clutch can cetainly take 250nm of torque, thats far more than a 172.. true capability is probably 3-350 nm.. its got a built in shock absorber for drive takup too and turbo load, should be great with nos.

I have just measured the clutch clearence and I dont think you could put an adapter plate in AND use the turbo clutch ... you could certainly have the 6 speed with std flywheel / clutch though..

the ratios are overall the same as the 5 speed with an extra gear between 4th and 5th,, nice !!.

another option..

I have enough parts to build the following unit

turbo f4r block
turbo crank
rods
172 pistons
turbo head (non vvt)
turbo cams
172 induction system
vandervell bearings for crank.
all new gaskets, seals, turbo head gasket, new cambelt etc.
oil spray jets for pistons.
Comp ratio 10.5:1
6 speed box - bolts straight on ! - no mods needed.
turbo clutch assembly with torque shock.

you should be able to use your exisitng throttle body - or maybe a slightly larger one.. and your ecu could probably be remapped by Nick Hill when he gets the rollers.

that would be a pretty entertaining combo with nos !.

to assemble and supply the unit, box and clutch would be about 2.4k complete.

that would be from a new block / crank etc.. new box.. new clutch..

I can offer no guarantees of easy fitment of the unit to your car, however, I cannot see any real problems.

Would be very cool to have that lump, but I wanna keep the under bonnet area looking as standard as possible, ie only have NOS, Induction kit, strut brace and Supersprint SS manifold showing, less hasle from insurence company then.

So I could use the 6-speed box with the stander 16v flywheel/clutch, Id still need an uprated clutch, any suggestions? BBPerformance do one thats rated to 220ft/lb and K-Tec Racing do a group-N one, dunno if either of these would be good enough, what about a mental padal one from a R5GTT?

How exactly would the 6-speed box fit on the F7P lump? Could you eloberate on the adapter plate idea? What sort of modifications would the drive shafts need?

Cheers, Simon

Dunno about mental clutches but to be honest, I use a standard Williams clutch and put an estimated 250bhp/250lbft through it and it takes it easily.

Like *any* clutch, if you do too many standing starts youll burn it out. Doesnt matter how uprated a clutch is, doing launch after launch constantly, will cane it! You just need to be considerate to your clutch...I burnt out a standard 16v one and a supposedly uprated Black Diamond one.

Joe,

I would like anymore infomation you can give me on the fitting of this box into a 16V.
I am very interested if it is not too much hassle or money!
