General PC advice please - problem to fix.

  BMW E46 330i Touring
Basically, when I start my computer of a morning, the monitor says that there is no signal. The PC seems to start fine as it always has done, but the monitor just stays off. I switch it on, but it just says that no signal is found and goes back into power saving mode.

Now I've tried changing the graphics card with no luck, and monitor works on another PC, so I know it's neither of them. I've also tried another monitor with my PC and it's the same problem.

I've noticed that the SATA cable which connects my HDD to the M-board is a bit loose, but chatting to a guy in Maplin, he doesn't think that would cause the problem. I've started the PC making sure that the connection is there and I still have the same problem.

Am I now resigned to the fact that it's my motherboard that's gone? If this is the case, what would people recommend I get to replace it?

My current motherboard is what I believe to be cheap and cheerful - AS Rock 775V88+ (AGP 8X) if that means anything?

Cheers.

Try another vga cable. I had the same problem and then tried another monitor with another cable and it worked. Had me stumped for ages trying to work out what it was. (The cable that didn't work on my PC, worked fine between the laptop and the TV too which was wierd).

Ok, for no particular reason, it works again! Over the last three days I've taken this PC apart and put it back together in all manner of combinations, and, for some reason, it's decided to work.

Go figure...
