Gonna get Pipercross

No i was thinking of the Induction kit.... i have been informed that maybe it will get too hot for it under the bonnet, but i dont fancy spending £250 on the Viper

Dont think much of vipers in 172s anyway. Personally dont think there is a very efficient way of routing the cold air pipe, therefore response of filter is slower. If you are worried about power to every bhp just get a panel filter and try to make better cold air pipes to it. Cones are just for the noise that they make. Vipers and bmc cdas are good filters just over priced and not suited to clio 172

Cones just suck hot air, even with the ducting.

Use an panal filter and look at heat wrapping the STD air box in heat reflective matrials and look at maximising the air flow through the std box, ie cut away any thing that looks as if it is restricitive and impeds cold air from the std ducting.

Yep agree,get the panel

Its cheaper and you wont really notice much difference from a viper.....exept the price

  Renault Laguna Coupe

To save you asking later (the instructions are crap / non-existent) you spray the oil onto the BLACK side of the filter. The oil is important - dont use the filter without it.

They are gonna fit it for me....

I wanted to also improve the look under the bonnet as i think the big black box is ugly, thats why im going for the cone.....

Im really after the sound.... the 3 BHP i aint gonna notice.....

What is the panel filter then, would i need to tell the insurance like i do with the induction kit??

the 3bhp you wont get tbh people have had losses on open cone filters, the viper has seen good results from everyone who has fitted one but the general consensus is that you will need a chip or remap to get the best out of it (craigy172 saw 193bhp with these two mods)

ALL i want to do is improve the noise of the engine, want more grunt....

Are you saying you think i shouldnt bother.. as its gonna cost

£90 Pipercross Vectar Fitted - £177 Tesco Insurance = £267

Forget the lot if you want grunt..As was said you can actually loose power with induction kits. The only one which promises more grunt is an element replacement. If you want some noise get a back box.

The 172 engine bay is so cramped an induction wouldnt be able to breath properly anyway..Dont waste your money

Jesus £177 for an induction kit with Tesco insurance, You need to be with a better insurer, Just got quoted a confirmed quote from Liverpool Victoria for £754 for my 1.2 16v with any styling mods covered including engine mods like exhaust and induction kit!!
