8800 GTS is best buy as said, if your feeling flush (like I was) get the 8800 GTX. I've got a 768MB XFX 8800GTX 1900Mhz.

Well no point in gettin a 8800 then because your pc wouldent even be able to use it to its potential , i would say a high 7 series card even then it wouldent use it fully.

8800gts 320mb

got one myself, spectacular graphics.
lowest i get on counterstrike:source (40 man server) is 80fps
it averages from 100-110fps
and upto 130fps
cant recommend it enough.

just make sure you got room for it, takes up 2 pci slots

cant really see the point in buying an old 7 series when he can get an 8800 which will last years for a bit more and have upgrading potential too.

I agree. I've got two 7900GTX cards myself, but unless you see a decent bargain coming up, there would be no point in going for one over an 8800 series card.

EDIT : Ah, yours is AGP. Forget the above then!

New cards run on PCI Express slots which your board will not have and to upgrade will be very costly.

As you'll be running AGP 4x or 8x I'd go for a 7600GT if you can find an AGP version or a slightly older second hand card like an X800 or X850 ATI (XT or XT PE model) or indeed a 1950XT if you have a bit more cash.

A 6800ultra or higher card will run Doom 3 easily at high resolutions. Just aim to spend £100 and get AGP....oh and don't buy it from PC World! Try www.overclockers.co.uk for the best deals. (No I don't work there)

You could always clock up your chip and ram a bit depending on what you have got. This will shift the information around a bit quicker and means the card will get the info faster (if you have 1gb of DDR2700 which is likely upgrade to 2gb).

Just some thoughts

That X1950 is a good choice. However I wouldn't buy anything from Microdirect ever again after a massive failure of one of their motherboards blew my X800 card (then worth £250) and their refusal to take the blame.

My friend has also had issues, ensure you check the contents of your bag before you go to walk out or they claim that all the stuff was in there even if it wasn't!

Just a few friendly warnings. They are nearly as cheap as OCUK though.

i used overclockers.co.uk and spent £600 on a full pc build, everything was perfect, boxed perfect, very quick shipping and very low prices.

i used to use ebuyer.

ill stick with ocuk from now on.
