  Clio 182 & Skyline R33
Hi all

Thought I'd better post the usual introduction :) - my name is Paul, and have had a 54 plate Clio Sport 182 since the back end of 2008. The car is actually my girl friends but I seem to drive it more than she does as my car (a rather modified Nissan Skyline) drinks more than a rugby trip at a free bar :).

Despite having less than 1/2 the horsepower of my car, I do love the Clio as it reminds me of my old Civic Type R - lows to be rev'd and just so easy to chuck around.

We have a couple of issues with the Clio as I think the exhaust is on it's way and it's handling like it's drunk so me thinks something is up with the rear suspension so next stop, will be a tour of the technical section :)

Welcome.
Check the rear dampers, they do seem to give up quite easy, mine just up after 30k ish on my old 182. I have still got the standard exhaust from my old 182, approx 10k on it, it is cut in half but just needs a sleve to join it back together, let me know if you need it, you can have it for a good price, :) .

Hmm could be tempted there Scott - lemme know the price mate :).

My mechanic looked at the rear end briefly when it was in for a wheel bearing and he said there was nothing obvious but whenever I hit small ripples in the road, the back end can step out quite easily if cornering. Feels like the N/S rear wheel is bouncing like it was not being dampened. Since you are local I'll give you a classic example - Hillheads Road, heading from Whitley towards Foxhunters fields, there is a crossing island right after the turn off for Foxhunters Ind Est (where all the car garages are). The road is patched there right at the start of the bend - if I hit that at anything over 30, the car will require a flick of opposite lock to keep it going!

There is a couple of exhausts on ebay for £100 ish starting bid, actually come to think of it i still have 1 good rear damper and all four springs, they were from a standard 182, not cup packs. You can have the lot for £100, there is also the front dampers from a 172 cup, or so i was lead to believe whan i bought them.

When my rear damper was gone it did this but it also knocked like mad when going over small bumps in the road.
Have you had the alignment checked?? My Trophy was handling a bit crap a while back and i found out the fronts were allover the place, had the alignment done at Revolution and its been fine since.

I'll let you know about the stuff mate - toying with buying an uprated exhaust and suspension kit at the moment :)

I've had the tracking done but not a full alignment - how much did Revolution charge?

Think it was £35 for the fronts set back to standard, rears are none adjustable without shims. Think if you have camber bolts in the fronts they charge between £35 and £99 depending on the work you want them to do.
