grinding noise

over the past couple of weeks everytime my car is in nutrael with the engine running and the clutch up ive been getting a grinding noise which has got progressivly worse when you put the clutch down it stops anybody had this problem or can throw some light to the subject?

Sounds like clutch release bearing or gearbox.

I had a problem like this, it normally happened when the engine was under load, ie reversing, and it also happened when accelerating, then taking your foot off the accelerator pedal and letting it come down through the revs, there was a horrible chirpy metal scraping kind of a noise.

Turned out it was some sort of metal mesh seal/gasket inbetween the exhaust manifold and where it connects up to the rest of the exhaust system. Replaced the gasket and now it's fine! Bizarre..

i suspected input shaft bearings any ideas on cost of repair?
