Grit

  1.2 Extreme
Just a quick question about the effects grit on roads will have on my waxes and sealants. Does anyone know if it will have an affect upon durability and can it damage the paint?

cheers

Grit (as in little stones) is OK apart from when it chips your paint.... it's the grit (chunks of salt) off the council's wagons that is the problem. Left to its own devices salt will corrode anything it touches on a car, it's just the amount of time it's left that makes the difference. Obviously some parts are more vulnerable than others, but clean it off pronto and you should be fine.

As far as I'm aware wax will help protect your paintwork but you'll still need to clean that salty residue off. No idea if there should be any problem as far as sealants go. Tbh I reckon with regular checking and cleaning you'd have no problems.

lucky my front bumpers plastic, could supply fish and chip shops with salt with the ammount piled up on there

A decent wax or sealant should protect you paintwork, it is the underside and wheels arches you need to keep clean at this time of year.

Grit as in salt, seems to be far too much on the roads at the minute, far more than normal.
I didn't think it would severely affect much but it was a case of rather being safe than sorry.
cheers lads
