Gtecniq C1

  GTD, Lupo
Continuing on from the "glass" thread which has got me a little interested in this C1 clear lacquer.

Was just wondering if anyone has had any experience of it on here. Also a little confused about where it fits in with a detail. Do you need to wax once it is applied or does it totally cancel that out?

I've not had experience with it buddy, thus far. The idea behind it is precisely as it's labeled - another layer of "lacquer". It sets rock hard and can actually aid the fight against swirls quite significantly.

It can also be very tricky to apply, however. This is the reason behind it only being available to pros for a certain amount of time, although it is now available to all.

Then again, from what I've read, Rob and the boys have made it perfectly acceptable to apply, it just takes a bit of time and concentration.

It's not for me i'm afraid.

It's almost like using Mercedes paint lacquer on your paint. Rock hard clear coat. Be aware if it goes wrong it'll require wet sanding/heavy compounding to remove.

I Wouldn't recommend it to anyone but that's just me. Maybe some soft paint owners or black car owners but even then it just takes the fun out of detailing for me.

Yeah mate, exactly what this kind of product was made for, also the GTR's are horrific for soft paint so kinda ideal.

Have you tried it yet JD? I went for the one where you get the extra bottle to mix up some QD so might give that a try.

Had a quick read and Rob suggested it should be applied to the bear paint for best effect. Might be a stupid question but whats the quickest and safest way to remove all the current wax/sealant on the paint to get it to a nice place to apply the C2?

Personally, APC or Citrus Wash from Chem Guys through a lance. Decent temperature and should see it break anything down quite nicely.

Or Tardis failing that, which tbh is not a bad thing as it will get rid of any tar (white car right?).

Yeah white car. Only thing thats a little gutting is the fact that i spent 12 hours over the space of two days doing the car last week. Its totally immaculate at the moment so just seems a shame to remove it all :(.

So don't! Use C2 later in the year, like a pre summer spruce up. Or take it to Audi, who in 15 minutes have stripped all of my wax, all of my Red Moose Glaze (covering the last marks they made) and marred the paint to fook...
