Guide to Changing Interior Dash lights

i want to change the dash dial lights to blue in my cup. I know there like square LEDs,

but has anyone got a guide on how to do it?

oh are theses LEDs bright?

ok ill try my best here.

once you have got the dials you will see there are clips holding the front plastic on.

once that is off you will need to remove the needles, i did this by hooking a piece of wire under either side of the center bit and pulling.

then turn them over and remove the 8 torx 10 screws holding it together. once they are out the dials will come apart.

once apart you will be able to see the circuit board like this.

i have circuled the leds that need to be changed.

take you soldering iron and some thing to prise them of a little.

heat up the one side of the soldered part and lift with priseing tool, once its lifted heat up the other side and it should just fall off the circuit board.

repeat for all leds.

once they are off the area where thay have been removed will look like this.

you now need to put a small amount of solder back on the board like this.

now putting the new leds back on. you do this by placeing the led on top of the solder you have put on the board and heating the solder and apply a little pressure to the led while the solder is hot. !"£ REMBERING TO PUT THE SIDE WITH THE NOTCH MISSING FROM THE CORNER TOWARDS THE K PRINTED ON THE BOARD £"!

once all 10 are done just put back together and try them out :D

they look blue-ish in the pic but they are definatly white.

the little display was un-exspected(sp) but looks good with white letters and blue background

i changed mine to white ones

ok to leave the red ones in but im not sure if it would work well with blue

Jst a quick q. aimed at Dink mostly.

I want to do this to my standard clio (non renaultsport) If i use white will this still make the little computer screen thingy go blue in mine? Just wondering if the renaultsport dials are different

  Polo + Micra

yeah for some reason the little display when blue was a bit of a mis-hap but it think it goes well with the white.

im not 100% convinced on using blue because im not sure how good the contrast would be on the display

cheers. Ill get both blue and white leds and see how they come out with my dash. want to do a fair few of the illuminated stuff so itll be a bit of a hobby of mine until uni!

also got to find some stick on chrome trim (dont worry, Im not doing it chav style, just trust me ;) )

  Polo + Micra

yeah i think it would look good with the dials blue and the display with white so it comes out white/blue

Yeh, Ill see if it works! I dont see how it shouldnt, just depending on where I place them (you said the white ones behind the trip computer screen made the surround blue, right?) Hopefully thatll work on my non renaultsport

Do you tihnk the same sized LEDs will work with other backlit displays on the car?

Yeh, Ill see what it turns out like when Ive placed them

You said the trip compter screen display went blue with white letters when the white led was behind it? Just hope that works on my 1.2 16v!

You reckon that the same sized LEDs will fit where the other backlit illumated areas of the car are? ie clock, buttons!

Ah, cool - will look nice then - even better when my interior doesnt look like someone has spilt right green paint down it

I know a shop that supplie lamps like that. Dont know what to do though as my interior bulb is actually green! but i guess my clock can be blue or green, with a blue/white dash. makes a change!

  Polo + Micra

yeah there is an orange filter behind the clock so that will probably have to be replaced with some thing like a piece of card or thin white plastic

Yeh, I reckon a piece of thin plastic will do, so long as it doesnt diffuse the light too much and I end up seeing nothing! I guess I could always just get a blue/green bit of plastic
