handbrake problem now a knocking noise

hi everyone,

i haven't used my clio for about a month so started it today with no issues but then the handbrake wouldn't release. I rocked it forward and back on the handbrake and eventually it loosened up and the handbrake works fine but i have a knocking noise from the left rear when the car is moving. I have checked the wheel, hub aren't lose and nothing looks untowards

Any ideas please?

does the knocking persist when you apply the brakes? and does it change with speed or cornering?
