Handbrake

  Arctic 182
It's just gone 'clunk' and loose and I am able to lift it up more. When it's on it feels like its still holding on one side so not sure if it has actually 'snapped'. It has happened before but somebody else fixed it for me. What do I do? How do I check?

I had one that did that, was a stretched cable. Don't think they're a great deal of cash to replace.

Not sure on the best way to test them, I'd get underneath the car though and trace the handbrake cable back, see if it had any slack in it

Is there any technical threads on here you know of as I wouldn't know what I'm looking for :|

Jack the rear up with hand brake on and try and turn the wheels, if one moves it sounds like a snapped cable like mine did.

Ain't actually done it on a clio b4, but its normally easy.

Remove trim around handbrake undo the wire their, get the car in the air undo anything holding the cable in place and disconnect it from caliper. Brief but haven't really looked at a clio handbrake cable. You'll figure it out.

I would also only buy new cables from Renault! Some cables appear to be the correct length until you get them under the car and realise they won't reach on the front end! Also you may have to adjust the cable from underneath the car. There is a heat shield (at least there is on the 172s) that needs removing; I would give the nuts/bolts a good soak in plus gas before attempting to remove. Hope this helps
