Have a look at my girth

100% oxygen-free copper core. Now that's what you call power cable. ;)

16 feet of the stuff. Don't ask me how I'm going to route it through my car. Seems like an all-interior-out job to me.

You'd be suprised...a bunch of them nicked some left overs off a job that we've nearly finished and sold it on...came to circa £3500 worth.

Shame they got dropped in it by one of other guys on site and had to provide us with a cheque.

Pikey's & check books, now i've heard it all lol, they only trade with money.. did this "cheque" clear?

  Focus RS Mk1
what are you running? maybe a bit overkill if you dont need it. could save yourself a lot of hassle

Getting an amp next month that will run 1200w @ 1ohms.

Will be running it 450w @ 4 ohms for the time being, but I don't believe in buying cheap cables. Will only need to replace them when I get higher rated equipment.

Bass, it's addictive. :D

I'll sell you a 1200wrms @ 1 0hm amplifier for £110 posted, Its a £300 SPL Dynamics amp!

its say its 4, 0 is hard core, and damm expensive

Where does it say it's 4?

It's KnuKonceptz Kollossus 0awg. ;)

CC, I'm getting one for a similar price (S-1200D?) off of someone else, thanks for the offer though.

oh right (ment to say "id say" looks thin for 9 awg thats all

not doing serious wiring untill your using solid copper bus bars eh crazy lol

  1.6 focus zetec....
Oi I fooking want that back.... My phone line won't work without it lol.

That is one big dirty power cable...

0awg ftw....

if building your setup in stages its always best to buy the correct cable for the finished job....that way you buy once & fit once....

you should also consider how many rca leads you will eventually require also....

with regards 'wiring kits', about the best value kit available presently is the
Autoleads PC4-28, the 0awg itself is a little stiff & the strands do tend to come apart if bent round very tight corners, but overall very good value for money, LINKY ....

if your cable route does involve tight turns, then i would opt for 'knukonceptz' 0awg, this is much more flexible....

i was kinda expecting someting different when refering to girth in your hand! ;)

thats not even trying.

f**k buying branded cable i'd just try and get some tri-rated stuff from an electrical wholesaler

so, just how many amps do these car amplifiers draw then, i mean through its power cables.
i point blank refuse to belive power cable that thick is needed.
if a starter motor will work fine on cable half its size i cant see a stereo system needing more

I doubt the cable for the starter motor has a run of 16' though. ;)

A short run of thin gauge cable would be fine for higher amp draws. But once you extend the length of said cable, it wouldn't be possible.

The cable in my first post is known to be able to take up to 300a of current at that length

Interesting point.....

As stated length of cable plays a big part.....

When selecting power cable for an audio install you need to consider two different things, one is safety, one is voltage drop....

0AWG at 16' will support massive ampage safely, but voltage wise you wouldn't want to exceed 150amps....once you exceed 150amps voltage will suffer....

If entering audio competition where installation is considered, all these factors are taken into consideration and are marked accordingly, for example if your using a 5mtr length of 4AWG, it should be fused at no more than 80amps....if it is, then points will be lost....

Don't confuse safety with efficiency, 0AWG tends to be used because its relatively easy to work with, but in some cases its still not big enough....

here's a link to an extreme car being built by dumdum, this car is for pure SPL and is only using one battery, (but its a big one), this is serious amounts of cabling, dumdum and his buzz bars .....20,000watts rms!!!!!!

Just for information, if your install will exceed a max draw of around 275amps, i would suggest you opt for direct battery earthing, (a cars chassis will support around 275amps to 300amps on the return path then resistance becomes an issue and voltage will suffer).....

So to OP; If your draw exceeds 150amps at 16', congrats mate, you need two runs of 0AWG, or upgrade to a single run of 2/0AWG....

If your max draw exceeds 250amps, I'd go 2/0AWG power cable and 2/0AWG earth cable from boot to battery.....

also i don't know why the f**k we adopt the stupid american sizes and just use normal mm2
