Headunit Problems

Looking for some help!

In my DCi Clio it has (or it had) a crap JVC headunit I bought it like this but recently remembered I had a standard Clio one lying around. So I unplugged the JVC one and plugged the standard one in, unfortunately the lights in the dash display (clock etc) only go on sometimes but I got the code for the standard one on some program I found on here and thought I could enter the code without the display. I done this but nothing, so weekend just passed me and a mate tried changing the clock display, taking the dashboard off etc only to find out the spare one I had also appears to have the bulbs gone. So back on.

When I originally plugged the standard one back in I unplugged it putting the JVC back in and that worked over the weekend I had to unplug it again but I have now put the JVC back in and it now doesn’t work. I can press a display button but it only shows the time of how long I have had this plugged in then goes off.

Anybody any ideas how i can get the JVC working only as a temporary measure until I get the display fixed.

Thanks,
Ben

Thanks mate

Would this be a fuse on the headunit or within the car?

Confused :s

You were right in saying the fuse had gone (side of the car 15amp) this has been replaced along with the 2 x 509 bulbs that go at the back of the display. I then put the standard Clio head unit back in but again nothing? The clock displays the time and temp but nothing else. I can turn on the head unit and can eject a CD and can press the volume button but it only makes a beeping noise. I disconnected the battery when I was doing all of this.

Anybody have any ideas? very confused and I have the dashboard off so any 'urgent' help would be great.

Is it true that the standard headunit can be 'break' inside due to cold weather?

Might sound stupid, but when you plugged in the standard Renault radio, have you entered the code?
Otherwise you'll just get beeping, and won't be able to do anything.

Sounds to me possibly like you haven't connected it back up to the top centre screen, which would be flashing CODE _ _ _ _ , and beeping if you tried to do anything else.

I would say its connected up rightly, had a look at a few pictures on the forum.

Once the headunit is back in I can turn it on, eject CD's and press buttons so I head a bleep sound but nothing on the top screen eventhough I have just replaced all the bulbs.

You definitely plugged the connector for the top screen in?
Coz the more I think about it the more that sounds what it is. If you haven't entered the code (regardless of the screen working) all you'll get when you press the buttons is a beeping sound, until you enter the code, and unlock the radio.
You haven't got a mate with a Renault radio nearby you can try (as long as you know the code) This eliminating the possibility of it being the radio itself..

I have asked somebody to dig one out then try this.

I think the plug your talking about is the yellow one?, this is all plugged in (the bottom one) think thats also the only one it connects too

Or failing that, try yours in their Clio, that they know the screen works. Then you'll know if its the screen still or the radio itself.

Anyway regardless, pretty certain the beeping is because its not been unlocked with the code.
Its just the screen/headunit problem you need to work out!

If you lived nearer me I would've happily tried swapping ours round to see if we could get to the bottom of where the problem lies. But we're opposite ends of the land lol!

Appreciate that James! and good idea

I read somewhere that the head unit can break inside if it gets to cold? it has been in a kitchen cupboard for ages probably even last winter when it was silly cold. Will try what you said maybe this weekend.
