Help please, Immobiliser issue?

Help! My car a phase 1 172 for the last 2 weeks has become harder and harder to start until yesterday it just does not want to know anymore. The immobiliser light on the dash is is flashing before you put the key in (normal) and put the key into start and its goes solid for a second then flashes at a faster rate. I used to get round this by holding the central locking button on the dash until it locked/unlocked the car then press the key fob but now that does not work. spare key does not work also

I have had a good search but there seems to be a lot of issue with this so hoping someone with the know-how could help narrow down the problem. please help

That is either a key validation issue, broken key, or decoder related. Have you tried your spare key?

Furthermore if the spare key works swap over the batteries inside them and then you'll know if it's just a flat key battery or dodgy key.

Battery in these keys will not effect the starting of the car. It will start the car with no battery in it.

Keys on this age of Clio are really common for failing key heads. Iv seen many where the spare key is also faulty.

I would get a new key on order ( you can get a key from Renault that comes without the central locking for a lot less)

They also don't need programming as they come straight from Renault already coded to start the car.
