HELP: Wheel bearing on a Clio 182 CUP, 38mm, 39mm or 40mm width?!?!?!

  Titanium Clio 182FF
Hi all, I was hoping that I could announce it in a more awesome way on the forum, but I need assistance. Quick introduction, I sold my 1.4 8v Phase 1, and bought a Clio 182 with both Cup Packs! In South Africa, a Renaultsport Clio 2 of any kind is rare enough, so to have found a 182FF was like hitting the jackpot!

Pictures comparing my old 1.4 to my new 182FF!

Unfortunately, the rarity of the car translates into rarity of parts! The car requires a new front wheel bearing, and we took the old one out, and it measures in at 40mm inner diameter, 84mm outer diameter and ~40mm width.

Now, the problem is that I can't find a wheel bearing with these exact dimensions. The 172/182 non-cup bearings are available, but obviously won't work. After a lot of searching, I found a bearing for a Renault Laguna that is 40x84x38:

According to a forum post on here a while ago, that is the correct dimensions for a 182 Cup front wheel bearing:

Also, this one on Autodoc was linked to on the forums by someone who said it is correct, despite it being 39mm tall:

I'm not sure however, as my old wheel bearing is slightly taller, and I'm concerned that the bearing won't stick out enough at the front once pressed in for us to put the circlip through. If anyone knows if a 40*84*38mm wheel bearing will work in my car, please let me know. I'd rather not import it from Europe/UK, obviously due to price, but also because the car needs to have its roadworthy test done very soon, and I can't wait for weeks or months for the parts to arrive.

The SNR bearing is correct OEM item.
I went for a FAG 713630920 if that helps at all, wanted an SNR, but was hard to get hold of at the time. No longer have the car, but no issues.
Thanks, but I doubt I'd be able to get either without going the import route. Would either of you say 38mm depth is wrong? I know it's only out by 1-2mm, but like I said, I'm afraid the circlip won't go on when pressed in, and I doubt they would accept returns once it's been pressed in and out if it doesn't work 😂

I imagine it will be ok, it's probably just their listing not being that accurate.

The FAG I had fitted is listed as the below, so I can't say if the 2mm would make a difference, but I'm not sure I'd risk it.

Alright, thanks hopgop, I'll keep looking. I called the Renault official agents in South Africa, and the prices were comical, equivalent of £100 for 1 bearing, and £500 for a driveshaft! All with a 2 week wait for them to import from France.

This is the correct wheel bearing.
Buycarparts is part of Autodoc.

Thanks, but they don't even allow me to enter South Africa in the delivery field upon checkout😅

I also had a lot of difficulty removing the driveshaft from the hub, took 3 days of pressing with a 20t, penetrating fluid, air hammering and hammering directly, but it finally gave way. Unfortunately the CV joint is now ruined, but since that seems to be identical with all 1*2s I found it for about £50 locally, so that hopefully shouldn't be a problem.

Can you use a proxy/forwarding service? Granted, won't be as cheap as if you could order directly but might be cheaper than Renault. Best to bundle multiple parts if possible.

Actually today, I was referred by a local R.S. group to a website called Spareto that can ship EU parts direct to South Africa and other countries, so I think if I can't find it locally, I'll give them a shot.
Will happily purchase for you and send on if you're considering a forwarder.
Thank you hopgop1, I'd really appreciate it, but I'm going to make sure I can't find it locally first. I'm going to check the 40x84x38mm bearing in person and compare it to my old knackered one, and if the spring clip cutouts in the outer race are the same distance apart, then I'm sure it will work, even if it is shorter after the spring clip. I will definitely let you know if I don't come right however.

By the way, I just wanted to make sure, the clutch kit, thrust bearing and clutch fork are nothing unique on the 182, or on the Cup, right? In other words, I see a LUK clutch kit for the F4R 730/736 (I'm assuming 172), would that work on my 182FF? I ask, because it turns out that this Cup suspension has been giving me nightmare with parts availability, and I really hope that the Cup part of it only applies to the carriers, hubs, wheel bearing and outer CV joints, and hope the nightmare doesn't continue past those items. 🤞

Spareto is a site alot of us in Australia use for parts. Used them towards the middle of last year. Customer service is very helpful.
Relative to other stores I've sourced parts from in the past (mainly UK). Shipping is weirdly not that expensive.

Yeah the clutch setup is the same for all 172 and 182.
