We do have some basic buyers guides on here, but if you post up specific car's you're looking at, I'm sure people will be more than willing to point out things to look out for.
Generally, dependant upon age, the cambelt is the big thing to look out for, every 70k or 5 years it needs to be done. It's quiet expensive at around £500.
Oh, and what type of sport are you looking at? Ph1/Ph2? 182/172?
