Hi-end Laptop - Where??

  Tesla MP3 2021
My mate is after a new laptop and I have recently introduced him into the world of Hi-Def/Blu Ray films to play via his Play On HD (media player) so he needs something that can handle those type of files and sizes which his current PC just doesn't do full stop, can take hours just to transfer onto a external HDD, plus trying to multi task on the thing is a nightmare.

He doesn't want a Mac so that is out of the question so where is the best place to pick up a decent spec lappy, price is going to be up to £800-£1000 but I don't really want to go over kill if I can save him a few quid.

I sort of know what I want spec wise but as I have never bought a laptop before other than my MBP I don't know the best place to pick one up.

I was looking at the Alienware ones but I think they maybe a bit OTT as he wont be using it for gaming or anything. Normally I wouldn't go near a place like this in a PC sense as I always build my own so I am just after a bit of advice really.

Cheers

I have been looking at a nice HP Pavilion which is running an i5. Looks a good spec for £800

He doesn't want a mac so can all the dribbling fanboys go and crack one out over the iPad or something?

Have a look at www.pcspecialist.co.uk mate, you can specify pretty much any spec you like and the prices are decent.

I'm biased in no way, and would still get a mac! Which company replaces your battery when it goes rubbish? HP and Sony just stop making drivers after a couple of months of releasing a machine, its crap! Just get a mac and install windows on it :D

To be fair if he's looking for a hi end laptop I imagine it's for gaming. And for mbp prices you can get a much much higher spec machine. crossfire in a laptop ? Yup :rasp:
