  182/Bora V5/S1 RS Turbo
Im a bit of a grandad driver in my 182 and am always driving on the eco to save juice cos im a tight northerner! T'other day some one pi**ed me off so i dropped it two cogs and hit the limiter for the first time and noticed the limiter kicked in before the red line. The shift light was lit up but is that the norm for it to kick in before the red:race:???

lmfao hitting the limiter for the FIRST time?

Depends if your engine/oil was cold mate... limiter set a lot earlier by the enginer management on a cold engine/oil

TIP: .... go out and drive your bloody car

  330Ci (Fail)Sport
^^ ya. If engine is not up to full operating temp, limiter is earlier than norm. I find my "shift" light comes on quite a bit before the limiter.

dude, why did you buy a 182 if you just pootle about trying to save petrol.those engines are setup to be driven hard..........use it

  H&R + Pole Position'd Cup
Your engines got lazy and cant be arsed to climb aaaaallllll the way through the revs so gives up half way

haha... just cos you've got a quick car, doesn't mean you have to drive like a nutter.

Give it some beans on the motorway, even just as your joining it... go on you'll smile. Try and get the over-revving light on a few times, and you'll know whether your car is normal or not.

BTW - Pish-taking is what cs do best

Hmm you'll have a 'slow' one then..for the sake of an extra 10/15£ a week its worth putting the boot in..

^ i drive with a very very heavy right foot

i average 32mpg, so im happy with that. I wouldnt want to drive like a girl for an extra 8mpg lol

on topic what id imagine is mate is the coolant temp needs to be over 85deg for the limiter to raise to its proper level, if you drove slowly for the half hour in this cold weather its quite possible for the coolant not to have reached this , hence the limiter being lower

I ve had the shift light on but I don't think I ve every actually hit the limiter, no need really is there, thats what neds do.

I only change gear when i see the shift light or whatever its called :rasp:.........

might explain my 28mpg

I've hit it a good few times. Its there to stop you damaging your engine therefore it wont damage your engine:approve:.

Not sure I'd want to if I went down the remap road though....

And I got stick for not giving mine the beans at our meets lol - I think not! :nono:

  DCi
are people scared of the rev limiter?? it won't damage it!
Me and my friend were saying this the other day, it's designed to protect your engine!!

Although I have noticed a couple of times that my limiter has come in early and I always ensure my car has been going 10-15 mins before I boot it even though everyone says here it's because your engine is cold. hmmm!

Clios have a shift up light?

Im learning more about these cars every day lol, crammed with gadgetery

Hit the limiter at 7k last night after about 5 minutes of driving, wasn't a cold start as used the car couple of hoursd before and obviously the weather was red hot but presume that was the reason for it? Took me by suprise

I think from our RR the peek power on nearly every 172 was made at around 6800rpm, so ye 7k is good, my RStuner has put mine up which I forget about sometimes :/

I have hit it a few times (not meaning to) but generally change up before. Nothing to worry about really.

Thats the idea of them, gives you a quarter second advanced warning. Would be no point in coming on at the same time as hitting the limiter lol
