Just realised my stopwatch on the iPhone hasn't stopped for some reason?

I've closed the app and done several hard resets yet still it doesn't stop.

I know thats the obvious answer. But my point was i didn't realise it was still going until the other day. If I've closed the app yet the stopwatch is still running then surly the app is running in the background? Using battery?
