172 yeah.? Standard alarm?
Ok, remote control central locking activates the alarm. If the car locks from the remote on the key, then the alarm activates through that.
If the light is not flashing on the key, and the car is not locking itself when you press it. Then you have a remote issue. You should have 2 keys, so try them both.
Work it out why the car is not locking, should be locking from the key for the alarm to work.
Locking the car with the key, or the central locking button wont activate the alarm. If you sit inside the car and lock the doors from the inside, the alarm does not go off. Has to be from the key.
Now, if the car is locking from the key, leave a window open. Lock the car, and leave it 5 mins, in the meantime if its not gone off. Put your hand in the car and the sensors will pick it up. If not, open the car door from the inside. That will set it off.
The light on the dash flashes whenever the ignition is turned off.
If the key is not flashing upon button press, then you need to split the key apart, and look at the battery contacts, and even replace the battery. You may have to modify the contacts as over time they begin to wear and contact wears down.
Your car should have 2 renault keys. These keys are about £120 each, so dont lose them. I know the gf's clio has 2 keys, only 1 of them has a remote fob on the key, so im unsure on yours.
The key has a chip inside, you will see this on the inside when you split it. The car needs this chip to be in the ignition key area to de-activate the immobiliser. If you dont believe me, when the key is split in half, put the key into the car and try to start it. The dash lights up but no engine start, good eh.. Something works..
Report back on the car key remote issue. My cash is on the battery being dead, or the contacts going out of shape.
Apart from that ive no idea on how to work the alarm, you could try leaving the drivers door open, locking the central locking from inside, the locking the door with the key, but i really really think this will not activate the alarm.
Remote key fob only me thinks..
