How Often....

do you service your car?

Never had to think about this myself as the ex usually handled things like this. I have almost had the car for a year now 1.2 Mk2 Phs1 and its due its MOT at the end of June - can you get a mini service with your MOT? Also how much is it likely to cost.

Ive never changed the oil since Ive had it either, but it says on the dial that Oil is ok? Should I check it anyway......

Change the oil every 3000 miles on my cars, then just stick to the manufacturers recomended service intervals.

I have a mate who has NEVER serviced any of his cars. He is 33 and has been driving since 17 and bizzarely enough reckons he has never broken down!!

Ive never serviced any of my previous cars tbh (ex used to do his own) but ive always had cheap cars so not bothered, but love the clio and really want to look after it!

Depending on what they find in the service could lead to new tyres, wheel bearings, suspension, aligning, brakes, exhaust, oil/oil filter, spark plugs, air filter, lights....

i think kwick fit do a Interim service and mot for £99.

i change my oil 6 months in from the yearly service.

i use dealers if the car is in warrenty, then independs after/ DIY if i can, i just keep the recipts.

I ve done it myself in the past but this one I want a stamp in the book so its going to a specialist in a few weeks.
A minor service on your clio should be under a ton.
Its a 2001 yeah? Has it had the cambelt changed yet?

Yeh 2001 - Not sure about the cam belt tbh - Im slighty nervous at the MOT as I had a load of trouble when I bought it but cos it was under warranty managed to get everything fixed. I asked for details off the place I bought it from as to what had been fixed etc but they never sent it through. Might be worth another letter to them tbh although it will almost be a year since I bought it from them

^ If you want to do it yourself I'm sure I can get a stamp from somewhere. But it wont be a specialist one :p

Yeah I could probably get a stamp, I might keep it for another year though and need to rely on it for work its a big service 40k one, and its got full main dealer service history as it is, for the sake of £150 I think I will just send it in, I ve got 1000 miles to be doing in it over the next 3 weeks :S

Cambelt is due at 5yrs ir 72k whatever comes first, might be worth chasing that :) .

Deffo worth chasing them for it, as you don't want it snapping on you if it hasn't been done. I'd call them as well as writing tbh.

As for 'oil ok' never rely on that at all, check it weekly by the dipstick under the bonnet to make sure. If the oil is black & doesn't run that well get it changed asap. If it needs topping up, but it's ok do that too.

Never trusted electronics on a car, I check my oil levles 95% of the time I open my bonnet.

As for a cambelt if you haven't had it done by now I would seriously look into getting it done.

Goldy brown

Cool Im going to check tonight - asked the garage how much a service was and they said depends, just gave me labour quotes basically saying a large service takes around 2 hours and a small one half an hour and labour is £36 an hour plus vat, also depends on what they change on the larger one.......think I will have a mini one once its had its MOT depending on if anything comes out of it.

  Clio 172 mk2
Get my 172 serviced yearly (oil, filter etc),do under 6k miles a year so don't see the point in changing oil at 6 month intervals

  ST
I changed the oil in my 197 at 1,000 miles after 'run in', i then had a small service done (oil and filters changed) at 6,000 miles, i'll have the car serviced again at 12,000 at the main dealer to keep the book up to date.

I check my oil levels weekly to twice weekly now. Even if im say just in the engine bay to look at water levels, i check all that i can while im there.

I have had terrible trouble with oil, replaced engine as the big ends went, and recently the head went, so ive been over checking just to make sure.
Plus the fact i knew i was loosing water, it just accumulated and went bang.

I service my own car at my mates garage but i do change oil and sparks etc at my house when i can. Generally i do it every 6000 to 7000 miles, just so i know when i drive it i have piece of mind. Plus the fact you learn how do fix it if something goes wrong.

I have kept every reciept i have ever touched the car with, so when it comes time to part company, it will show that i have spent the money on the car and really looked after it, and both engines.
