can you see the curser?
Hold down the Power button for around 10-15 secconds until you hear and see it click off.
Wait a few seconds and turn it on again ensuring no USBs are plugged in or anything (also check CD Drive is empty).
If no joy, what laptop do you have? and how old? There could be a recall or something for this being an HP.
Is the computer working but no screen my laptop did this once, completely blank screen but inside you could hear the comp working!!
I had to turn it on in safe mode
same thing happened to mine it was a pavillion too....didnt find out what was up with it, just got a new one
take it back and get a replacement
I think you have to turn it on whilst pressing F8 or something and it should come up with a black screen and white writing, choose the option that says turn on using last known safe configuration
it went in the bin, it was 18 mths old so was out of warrenty
asked a few ppl and they said it cud be the cpu, was desperate for a computer to do some work so just bought a s**tty one for £300 or summit with alot more memory so wasnt too bothered
so see if u can get it fixed while its under warrenty still
its not what kerry says that happened to me too :s
thats summit todo with it forgetting to load up windows or summit
mine, i pressed the button, fan would start up then shut down a short time after and do it again and again
This is quite common with Horse Poos iirc can't find a specific fault with your model though on the HP site
Get it sorted under warranty whilst you can!
Not impressed tbh, i'm also already on the third battery charger!
Happened on ours a few times, static build up I was told. I think, we removed the battery and held the power button down for a minute. Then put battery in and try again.
Does it beep twice really loudly when you turn it on? Mine did this, was sat there playing out some tunes and then all of a sudden crashed. When I turned it back on the screen stayed blank and there was an ear-splitting beeping.
It was still under warranty so I took it back to Comet. They sent it off to HP and apparently they loaded up a new BIOS profile or something. Probably feeding me a load of nonsense tbh. Anyway, it now works, but the fan makes a lot more noise.
You have (still do, BTW, they're not fixing it just bodging it) one of the faulty nVidia graphics chips. What they h'actually did was swap the motherboard for another one and load a new BIOS with a different fan profile, which just runs louder/faster all the time to keep the GPU temperature down to minimum rather than balancing it with power consumption.
Dell, Sony, Apple, HP, MSI etc. all had the same problem.

Yeah common fault with that chip. Happened on my HP and it was fixed under warranty but then it done the same again a year after.
Yeah i don't hold out much hope for it lasting long tbh.. probably get a new mac laptop soon anyway.
Just make sure you have all your data backed up or have a way to get it back for when it finally dies.
Put in your Windows disc that you got with it or the recovery disc. Possibly missing a boot up file so if you can get it to boot up using this disc it may laod up the basics so you can fix the problem.
Possibly a driver missing or corrupt.
PM if you need more info and il be happy to help.
Pretty surpsised at that. Most come with some kind of recovery discs. My old desktop fecked up similar and HP sent us discs out as it was just out of warrenty. The discs fixed the problem for a while until we sacked it and got a new one. At least got i Tunes and pics off it. You will easily be able to take the HDD out and slap it in a similar laptop or buy a cheap HDD and slip yours inside it to then put it on a new/fixed laptop.
But if you have warrenty get it fixed for free and try and blag an extra month or 2 free incase it goes tits up again.
When mine was sent off to HP it came back with all my files still on the harddrive.
Is it Vista or XP?
I think you could get away with using someone elses disc to copy the basic files across if this is indeed the problem. But try your free shot with John Lewis first.
Yeah I have a TX1250 and it gave me option to burn recovery DVDs when I first got it. I usually use plain Microsoft OEM install disks though so you don't get all the pre-loaded crap (even if you miss out on the preinstalled drivers
Sounds like it could be a video problem, try shining a torch on the screen when it's switched on to check that it isn't just the backlight that's f**ked. And try plugging in an external monitor if you have one handy? If it was me, I'd remove the hard drive first and try and copy the contents onto another computer.
